A valid Fingerprint Clearance Card is required for all caregivers to ensure the safety and security of individuals receiving care. This background check is essential for meeting state regulations and maintaining eligibility for employment.
Step-by-Step Guide to Getting a Fingerprint Clearance Card:
Visit the State Website
Go to the official state website for fingerprint clearance card applications (linked here). Fill in all the required personal information. You may receive a tracking or ID number—be sure to save it if you do.
Find a Fingerprint Scanning Location
Use Google or Google Maps to search for a location near you that offers electronic fingerprint scanning. Most locations use a glass-top scanner to capture fingerprints digitally.
Make an Appointment & Pay the Fee
Schedule an appointment with your chosen location. You will likely need to pay the fee online during this process.
Prepare the Required Documents
Bring your ID to your appointment. You might also need your tracking/ID number or additional identification, depending on the location’s requirements. Check ahead of time to confirm what’s needed.
Get Your Fingerprints Scanned
At your appointment, your fingerprints will be scanned electronically on the glass-top scanner and sent to the state, where they’ll be matched with the information you provided online.
Avoid Paper Fingerprints if Possible
Some places still use traditional paper fingerprint cards and ink, which can be a more tedious process. If possible, choose a location that offers electronic scanning.
